THE STORY : In 2001, UNICEF granted money to the Mexican government to build day care centers in the poor areas of Mexico. Subsequently, 11 centers were built in Puerto Vallarta. After looking several charitable organizations in the area, the city of Puerto Vallarta awarded the operation of these centers to the Children of the Dump, based on its record of service to the poor children and their families located in the city of Puerto Vallarta. SPECIFICS : Each center has three classrooms, two bathrooms, an office and a full modern kitchen. Each center has a capacity of 25 children ages 31/2 months to 31/2 years old. Four full-time teachers and a cook staff each center. The centers are open from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. The children are fed two full nutritious meals and a snack each day. The babies are supplied with formula, diapers and other baby supplies. The older children are taught cleanliness, discipline and basic character skills. The centers are now fully subsidized by the Children of the Dump Organization. .....................................................................................................................................................................................
